He brought laughter to households for countless years, so it comes with great sadness to report that Andy Griffith has passed away at age 86.
The legendary actor passed away at his Manteo, North Carolina home early Tuesday morning (July 3), according to WITN News.
After spending eight years playing Sheriff Andy Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show", he carried on with the beloved character on "Mayberry R.F.D.".
Griffith also is a Grammy award-winning southern gospel singer and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush in 2005.
