Ever wonder what would happen if hundreds of fireworks exploded at once?
San Diego experienced this phenomenon -- by accident -- when an annual fireworks display malfunctioned, setting off all of the fireworks five minutes prior to the start of the show. The Fourth of July celebration was expected to last 18 minutes, but went up in smoke within 15 seconds, according to the LA Times. (See videos of the show below)
One tweeter, @BenBaller, caught the incredible display in an Instagram photo that has been retweeted dozens of times:




MSNBC reports that Port District authorities blame a "technical difficulty" for the unexpected blasts.
Garden State Fireworks produced the show this year, and released a statement on Big Bay Boom explaining they had a team "working throughout the night to determine what technical problem caused the entire show to be launched in about 15 seconds."

Olivia Culpo, Miss Rhode Island, is the winner of the 61st Annual 2012 Miss USA Pageant and will represent the United States in the Miss Universe Pageant.

First runner-up was Miss Maryland Nana Meriwether, second runner-up was Miss Ohio Audrey Bolte and third runner-up was Miss Nevada Jade Kelsall.




According to her bio on the Miss Universe web site, the 20 year-old hails from Cranston, Rhode Island. She is an accomplished cellist who has performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Rhode island PhilharmonicChamber Ensemble, Bay View Orchestra and Rhode Island All-State Orchestra.

                                                   



Fun facts about Culpo? She loves Audrey Hepburn and her favorite movie is "Funny Face." In addition, she claims that she can tie a cherry stem with her tongue.

The hosts for the event, which aired live from Las vegas on NBC, were Bravo personality Andy Cohen and Giuliana Rancic.
                                                   


Telecast judges included TV host Ali Fedotowsky, "Celebrity Apprentice" winner Arsenio Hall, former Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza, pop idol Joe Jonas, celebrity chef Cat Cora, TV host George Kotsiopoulos, actress Marilu Henner and reality star Rob Kardashian.

Miss USA is getting ready to crown a new winner. The nation will be seeing 51 gorgeous women on June 3, 2012, vying for the title, but before the women hit the stage there is plenty of rehearsing going on for the contestants to know their marks.

On Sunday the competition shared details about the opening number, including how the audience will see Sherri Hill fashion in the opening minutes of the live show from Las Vegas.

Miss USA - 2011The opening sequence isn't going to have just beautiful women, but a unique view of 51 different dresses divided in five themes.
From the debutante group to the rocker group, each of the different gowns will collectively share a vibe about a lifestyle and trend in fashion found in America.

Las Vegas is definitely going to heat up this Sunday!

51 gorgeous girls will strut their stuff Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for the 2012 Miss USA pageant. The contestants will compete three categories: evening wear, swimsuit, and interview.

Their fates will be decided by eight celebrity judges: Joe Jonas, Rob Kardashian, Ali Fedotowsky, Arsenio Hall, Dayana Mendoza, Cat Cora, George Kotsiopoulos, and Marilu Henner.

Giuliana Rancic and Andy Cohen will serve as hosts while Kelly Osbourne and Jeannie Mai will share their expertise as commentators.

Taylor Neisen, 20, is a sophomore at Black Hills State University studying exercise sciences.

Kristen Danyal, 21, is studying business marketing at the University of Detroit where she is working toward a career in event planning.

Myverick Garcia, 22, of Hattiesburg, was homeschooled by her mother before attending Jones County Junior College. She says she is inspired by her grandmother, who she calls 'Side Saddle.'

Nana Meriwether, 27, is a two-time NCAA All-American volleyball player who graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Rani Williamson, 25, started her career modeling for an L.L. Bean Kids catalogue when she was 5 years old and can speak French. She is a social media specialist at a marketing firm in New York City.



Miss Massachusetts USA 2012, Natalie Victoria Pietrzak

Natalie Victoria Pietrzak, 26, graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is currently working toward her MBA.



Miss Kentucky USA 2012, Amanda Ashlee Mertz

Amanda Mertz, 25, is a registered nurse living in Louisville, Ky., who loves kickboxing.

Karina Brez was a student at the Alexander Dreyfoos School of the Arts. The 24-year-old beauty was born in the Ukraine and is a graduate gemologist.
