'The X Factor' Judges Pick Top 12
On Thursday, The X Factor judges each chose two of their acts to send straight through to the Top 12,leaving the remaining two to sing-off for their survival. Warning: Spoilers from here on!
Young Adults mentor Demi Lovato led off the night. The 20-year-old singer gave Janelle Garcia and Paige Thomas a pass, leaving Willie Jones and CeCe Frye to duel. CeCe gave a low-key performance in comparison with Wednesday's performance, which featured the singer in loud makeup, writhing on the stage. Willie's act wasn't strong enough to convince Lovato to send him through, but according to Simon Cowell, the lackluster performance wasn't his fault.
Simon claimed that Willie needed a mentor who "understands what to do with [his] voice."
The Over-25s mentor L.A. Reid chose Vino Alan and Tate Stevens for immediate advancement, leaving David Correy and Jason Brock to sing-off. LA dubbed the duel "Mr. Entertainment vs. the star." In the end, LA sent home the star, David.
Teens mentor Britney Spears saved Beatrice Miller and Carly Rose, leaving Diamond White and Arin Ray to do battle. L.A., Demi and Simon unanimously agreed that it would be a shame if Arin left the competition at this point. But when Diamond sang, she received the same review, leaving Britney with the toughest decision of the night. Britney reluctantly stopped Diamond's run in the competition, but she didn't stop the young singer's smile which remained fixed on her face up until her last moments on camera.
Groups mentor Simon Cowell sent boy band Emblem 3 and Lyric 145 straight through, while Sister C and 1432 were forced to face-off. In a drawn-out and dramatic monologue Simon sent home Sister C, but the next time you see 1432, they will probably have another name. Simon announced that he will be accepting fan suggestions on a new name via The X Factor website.
